A warm and powerful wellness shot that combines turmeric, black pepper, honey, and lemon juice for an anti-inflammatory and immunity-boosting boost. Easy to make with either fresh turmeric root or ground turmeric powder.

Ingredients

Scale

15 to 20 grams organic fresh turmeric root (or 2 teaspoons organic ground turmeric)

¼ cup water

6 tablespoons warm water (1½ tablespoons per shot)

½ teaspoon whole black peppercorns

4 teaspoons honey (skip if diabetic)

¼ cup lemon juice (or 4 teaspoons lime juice or orange juice)

½ to 1 teaspoon cold-pressed avocado oil (or melted coconut oil or ghee)

Instructions

  1. Wash and scrub fresh turmeric root. Peel with a spoon or butter knife, then slice it up.
  2. Optional: Simmer sliced turmeric in ½ cup water for 5 minutes. Let it cool.
  3. Blend turmeric slices (or use powder), ¼ cup water, and peppercorns until smooth.
  4. Strain through fine mesh or cheesecloth. Keep leftover pulp for soups or smoothies.
  5. In each shot glass, mix 1½ tablespoons warm water and 2 tablespoons turmeric liquid.
  6. Stir in 1 teaspoon honey until well combined.
  7. Optional: Add 1 tablespoon lemon juice and a few drops of avocado or coconut oil.

Notes

Use organic turmeric only—non-organic stuff might have additives.

Don’t drink it ice cold. Room temp or warm works best.

Works better mid-morning or after a light breakfast. Not on an empty stomach.

If you make a bigger batch, store in the fridge for up to 3 days, warm slightly
