At a MOM’s Funeral – في جنازة الأم

I was shaking and crying my eyes out until my head was pounding. I couldn’t breathe! I cried again some more. I have never felt this pain before, even though I experienced a lot of sadness and suffering in this world, whereas this one hurts the most.

كنت أرتجف وأبكي حتى بدأ رأسي ينبض من الألم، لم أستطع التنفس! بكيت مرة أخرى، لم أشعر بهذا الألم من قبل، رغم أنني شعرت بالكثير من الحزن والمعاناة في هذا العالم، في حين أن هذه المرة هي الأكثر إيلاماً.

She used to offer love, and try to see things from our perspective. She was the most patient person I have ever known and an unconditional love giver.

لطالما قدّمت لنا الحب محاولةً أن ترى الأشياء من منظورنا. كانت أكثر شخص صبور عرفته على الإطلاق، وأكثر من يمنح الحب بغير شروط.

She taught me that discipline is a good thing, gentle non-violent discipline. When you want to say no, say it and mean it. That way, you’re not raising brats

علمتني أن الانضباط أمرٌ جيّد، الانضباط اللين، ليس الصارم منه. كذلك عندما تريد أن تقول لا، قل ذلك واعنِه. بهذه الطريقة لن تربي أطفالاً مزعجين.

I was her priority! And by prioritizing me, she got me raised as a well self-assured and confident person.

كنت أولويتها! بجعلي أولويتها، ربّتني كشخص واثق من نفسه ومطمئن لذلك.

She helped me grow, prosper, and achieve what I desire in life. I had a special relationship with her that no one had and I myself will never have again.

ساعدتني على النمو والازدهار، وتحقيق ما أتمناه في الحياة. كانت تربطني بها علاقة خاصة لم يحظَ بها أحد من قبل، وأنا نفسي لن أحظى بها مرة أخرى.

Once, I ran to her complaining about wasting my time doing nothing but chill and how some friends are wasting my time with their immaturity and not respecting others’ time. She held me in her arms and said “No worries, sweetie, no worries. It is all going to be alright

ذات مرة، ركضت إليها متذمرة كيف أنني أضيع وقتي في عدم فعل أي شيء سوى الاسترخاء، وكيف أن البعض يضيعون وقتي في عدم نضجهم وعدم احترامهم وقت الآخرين. أخذتني بين ذراعيها وقالت “لا تقلقي يا عزيزتي، لا تقلقي. كل شيء سيكون على ما يرام”.

She taught me how to invest my time in improving myself and completing projects which I procrastinated on before. She gave me her time and love.

علمتني كيف أستثمر وقتي في تطوير نفسي وإنجاز المشاريع التي أجّلتها من قبل. منحتني وقتها وحبها.

.She was the critic that I took seriously. At the same time, she was my best supporter of all

كانت الوحيدة التي آخذ انتقاداتها على محمل الجد. في الوقت نفسه، كانت أفضل داعم لي على الإطلاق.

I still vividly remember one day at school, I felt butterflies in my stomach. I stood up behind the door, feeling anxious and wound up. “I am afraid I cannot talk to anyone. I don’t even know how I would make friends” I whispered to her nervously.
She whispered in my ears: “Treat them nicely, immerse with them and ask them common questions in order to know them well”. Now, I’m a graduate and an extremely outgoing and extroverted person.

ما أزال أتذكر جيداً اليوم الذي كنت فيه في المدرسة حين شعرت بالتوتر والخوف. وقفت خلف الباب، وشعرت بالقلق والتوتّر: “أخشى أنني لا أستطيع التحدث مع أي شخص. حتى أنني لا أعرف كيف سأكوّن صداقات” قلت لها بصوت متوتر.
همست في أذني: “عامليهم بلطف، واختلطي بهم واطرحي عليهم أسئلة شائعة لكي تتعرّفي عليهم جيداً”. الآن، أنا شخصية منفتحة واجتماعية بشكل كبير.

I remember that as I was a kid, we were shopping and you bought me the best fashionable outfit ever. While we were shopping, a red fancy dress caught your attention. I asked you to go for it and try it on. You refused. I insisted so you tried it on and it suited you perfectly. “I love it so much, but it’s too expensive sweetheart” she whispered to me.

أتذكر عندما كنت طفلة، كنا نتسوق واشتريت لي أفضل زي على الإطلاق. بينما كنا نتسوق، لفت نظرك فستان أحمر أنيق. طلبتُ منكِ أن تذهبي وتجربيه فرفضتِ. أصريتُ على ذلك، لذلك ذهبتِ إلى هناك وجربته وكان يليقُ بكِ تماماً “أحببته كثيراً، لكنه غالٍ جداً يا عزيزتي” همست لي.

The next year on mother’s day, I bought her the same dress by saving my pennies day by day nonstop. The moment she received the gift and opened it, she burst out crying “You are the most delightful and beautiful thing in my life”. Her words still echo in my head.

في السنة التالية في عيد الأم، اشتريت لها نفس الفستان من خلال توفير المال يوماً بعد يوم دون توقف. في اللحظة التي استلمت فيها الهدية وفتحتها، انفجرت باكية. “أنتِ أجمل شيء في حياتي”، وما تزال كلماتها تتردد في رأسي.

Now, at her funeral, I can never stand her loss. “Please accept my condolences”. People mumbled and I just can’t react or respond to that sentence. This world has lost the best mom in humanity. I have no clue what to do in my life without her. I happen to go and cry in her arms whenever I face a setback in life. But now! Where shall I go? And then I burst out crying again

الآن، في جنازتها، لا أستطيع تحمل خسارتها أبداً. “تقبل تعازي” يتمتم الناس، ولا يمكنني التفاعل أو حتى الرد على تلك الجملة. فقد هذا العالم أفضل أم في البشرية. ليس لدي أدنى فكرة عما أفعله في حياتي بدونها، فكلما واجهت نكسة في الحياة، كنت أبكي بين ذراعيها. لكن الآن! أين يجب أن أذهب؟ مجدداً، انفجرت بالبكاء.
