قصة الساحر آيزنهايم – Eisenheim the Illusionist

In the 1990s there lived Edward, also known as Eisenheim. Nobody knows anything about his origins outside of magic.

في تسعينيات القرن الماضي، عاش إدوارد المعروف بآيزنهايم. لا أحد يعرف شيئاً عن إدوارد عدا كونه ساحراً.

Yet Edward had not lived his whole life as an illusionist. Contrary to what you would expect, Edward was the son of a famous Viennese furniture maker.

لكن إدوارد لم يعش كل حياته كساحر. على عكس ما تتوقعون، كان إدوارد ابن صانع أثاث مشهور في فيينا.

His father was a conservative and law-abiding person and he was raising Edward to become the heir of his craftsmanship. Edward was an attentive young boy and he learned his father’s craft very quickly, which gave him an advantage over all other magicians.

كان والده شخصاً ملتزماً ويتبع القوانين، وكان ينشئ إدوارد ليصبح وريث مهنته فقد كان إدوارد صبياً نبيهاً وتعلم حرفة أبيه بسرعة فائقة، وهذا ما أعطاه أفضلية على جميع السحرة الآخرين.

One day, Edward was playing in the field when he saw a gypsy magician traveling. The magician stood beside him and said, “Have you ever seen someone disappear?” Edward did not know the meaning of the magician’s words but all he knew was that the magician disappeared in clouds of smoke after he had finished his question.

ذات يوم، كان إدوارد يلعب في الحقل عندما رأى ساحراً غجرياً مسافراً. وقف الساحر بجانبه وقال له “هل شاهدت يوماً شخصاً يختفي؟”. لم يعرف إدوارد معنى كلام الساحر، ولكن كل ما عرفه هو أن الساحر اختفى بين سحب من الدخان بعدما انتهى من سؤاله.

From that day on, Edward found his passion for magic and took on a new name, Eisenheim. Eisenheim decided to leave his home and travel the world, that journey is still a mystery today.

منذ ذلك اليوم، وجد إدوارد شغفه بالسحر، واتخذ اسماً جديداً هو آيزنهايم. قرر آيزنهايم مغادرة منزله والسفر عبر العالم، وما تزال تلك الرحلة لغزاً حتى اليوم.

Eisenheim reappeared in Vienna when he decided to start practicing magic in the city’s theaters. Nobody knew who the strange magician was. Stranger to the city yet his performances astonished all of its residents.

ظهر آيزنهايم مجدداً في فيينا عندما قرر البدء بممارسة السحر في مسارح المدينة، لم يعرف أحد من هو الساحر الغريب عن المدينة، لكن عروضه أذهلت جميع سكانها.

Eisenheim’s performances were so elaborate that people began to think of him as a wizard rather than an illusionist. Some even started a rumor that he had sold his soul to the devil.

كانت عروض آيزنهايم متقنة جداً لدرجة أن الناس أصبحوا يظنونه مشعوذاً وليس لاعب خفة، حتى أن البعض أطلق عليه شائعة أنه قد باع روحه للشيطان.

Eisenheim’s favorite trick was to get into a black box on stage and then disappear.

كانت حيلة آيزنهايم المفضلة هي أن يدخل إلى صندوق أسود على المسرح ومن ثم يختفي.

Eisenheim’s tricks sparked a lot of arguments in discussions around town, his tricks got better till people believed them to be true.

أثارت حيل آيزنهايم جدلاً كثيراً في جلسات الحوار في المدينة، وتطورت تلك الحيل حتى أصبح الناس يعتقدون أنها حقيقية.

People began to think the shadows that the Illusionist casts on stage are the ghosts of the dead that Eisenheim used to conjure to share his stage.

أصبح الناس يعتقدون أن الأخيلة التي يسقطها الساحر على المسرح هي أشباح أرواح ميتة يستحضرها لتشاركه خشبة المسرح.

The anger of the city’s authorities against the magician escalated because his control over its residents increased day after day.

تصاعد غضب السلطات في المدينة ضد الساحر لأن سيطرته على السكان تزيد يوماً بعد يوم.

One night, the authorities arrived to arrest Eisenheim followed by a crowd of people. Eisenheim thanked everyone for attending and told them, “Have you ever seen a man disappear?” Then he himself disappeared through clouds of smoke.

ذات ليلة، وصلت السلطات لتعتقل آيزنهايم ووراءها حشد من الجماهير. شكر آيزنهايم جميع الحضور وقال لهم “هل رأيتم يوماً رجلاً يختفي؟” وبعدها اختفى خلال سحب من الدخان.
