The Ramadan Lantern – مصباح رمضان
Sami was a young boy who lived alone with his father after the death of his mother. His father was the king and decided to marry again. Sami’s stepmother was an extremely evil woman.
كان سامي فتى صغيراً عاش وحيداً مع والده بعد وفاة والدته. كان والده هو الملك، وقرر أن يتزوج من جديد. كانت زوجة والد سامي امرأة غاية في الشر.
Sami was unhappy but his father didn’t care. In the middle of the month of Shabaan, Sami decided to leave the house with his pigeon pet and never come back. Sami said, “Let’s run away because nobody here cares for us.”
كان سامي غير سعيد أبداً، لكن والده لم يأبه بذلك. في منتصف شهر شعبان، قرر سامي الرحيل عن المنزل مع الحمامة الخاصة به وعدم العودة أبداً. قال سامي: “لنهرب لأنه ما من أحد هنا يهتم لأمرنا”.
After long hours of walking, they arrived at a huge palace where a ghoul lived. Sami was very hungry and tired. He knew that the ghoul was in there but decided to go in anyway.
بعد ساعات طويلة من المشي، وصلا إلى قصر كبير يعيش فيه غول. كان سامي متعباً وجائعاً. كان يعلم أن الغول في الداخل ولكنه قرر الدخول في جميع الأحوال.
Sami found a comfortable bed and went to sleep. When he woke up, he found himself in a big golden cage. The ghoul was watching him and said “I know who you are and I know about your evil stepmother. Your father doesn’t love you. I want you to stay here and become my friend.”
وجد سامي سريراً مريحاً، وخلد إلى النوم. عند استيقاظه، وجد نفسه في قفص ذهبي كبير. كان الغول يراقبه، وقال: “أعرف من أنت، وأعلم بأمر زوجة أبيك الشريرة. والدك لا يحبك. أريدك أن تبقى هنا، وأن تصبح صديقي”.
Sami got scared and begged the ghoul to set him free. The Ghoul said, “I will give you one chance. I will send your pigeon home. If your father wanted you, he would follow it back here. If not, you will spend the rest of your life here.”
شعر سامي بالخوف، وتوسل إلى الغول لكي يطلق سراحه. قال الغول: “سأعطيك فرصة واحدة. سأرسل حمامتك إلى المنزل. في حال كان والدك يريدك، سيتبعها في أثناء عودتها إلى هنا. في حال لم يرغب بعودتك، ستقضي بقية حياتك هنا”.
Since Sami has run away, his father spent his nights crying and praying to God to see his son again. One night, he was praying when he saw a pigeon on his window. He got up fast and decided to follow the pigeon but it was too dark.
منذ هروب سامي، أمضى والده لياليه باكياً متضرعاً الله ليرى ابنه مجدداً. ذات ليلة، كان يصلي عندما رأى الحمامة على نافذة غرفته. نهض بسرعة وقرر أن يتبع الحمامة، لكن الظلام كان دامساً.
Sami’s sister suggested that people held candles and lanterns and lit the way for her father. The news spread and people from all around the city came to help the king find his missing son.
اقترحت أخت سامي أن يحمل الجميع شموعاً وقناديلاً لإضاءة الطريق لوالدها. انتشرت الأخبار، وجاء الناس من جميع أرجاء المدينة ليساعدوا الملك في العثور على ابنه.
They all followed the king while singing songs to celebrate the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. Sami heard them and saw the lights. He immediately knew that his father was on the way. He told the Ghoul about it. The ghoul said: “I was mistaken. I think your father loves you and he deserves a second chance.”
تبعوا الملك جميعاً وهم يغنون أغاني احتفالية بشهر رمضان الكريم. سمعهم سامي ورأى الأضواء. علم مباشرة أن والده على الطريق. أخبر الغول بذلك. قال الغول: “لقد كنت مخطئاً. أعتقد أن والدك يحبك، وأنه يستحق فرصة ثانية”.
The king took his son back to the palace and had Iftar together. To reward his people, the king gave each family a golden lantern to hang outside their homes. Then he ordered his soldiers to light the streets of the city with colorful lanterns.
أعاد الملك ابنه إلى القصر، وتناولا الإفطار سوية. أعطى الملك كل عائلة فانوساً ذهبياً ليعلقوه أمام منازلهم لمكافأتهم على ما قاموا به، ومن ثم أمر جنوده بإضاءة شوارع المدينة بمصابيح ملونة.
