مملكة الحمقى – The Kingdom of Fools
Once upon a time, there was a kingdom ruled by an idiot king who made unreasonable decisions.
كان يا ما كان، كان هناك مملكة يحكمها ملك أحمق يتخذ قرارات غير منطقية.
A guru and his student passed through this kingdom one day. The guru didn’t like this kingdom but his student decided to stay and settle down in it.
في أحد الأيام، جاء معلم وتلميذه إلى هذه المملكة لكنها لم تعجب المعلم، بينما قرر التلميذ البقاء والاستقرار فيها.
One night, a thief was trying to rob a merchant’s house but before he could steal anything, the wall fell on him and he died.
ذات ليلة، حاول لص سرقة منزل تاجر، ولكن قبل أن يتمكن من سرقة أي شيء، سقط عليه الجدار ومات.
The thief’s brother complained to the king that the death of his poor brother was the merchant’s fault so the king decided that he should be executed.
ادعى شقيق اللص أن موت أخيه كان ذنب التاجر، ولذلك قرر الملك إعدامه.
They built new gallows for the criminals to be executed but it was huge so the king decided that a fat person should be hung in it first.
قاموا ببناء مشنقة جديدة لإعدام المجرمين، ولكنها كانت كبيرة جداً، فقرر الملك إعدام شخص سمين فيها لتجربتها.
They chose the student because he was fat even though he did nothing wrong.
اختاروا التلميذ ليتم إعدامه لأنه كان سميناً، على الرغم أنه لم يقترف ذنباً.
The guru came to rescue his student and then told the king he wanted to be executed first. When the king asked him why he replied: “The first person who is executed in a new gallows will be reborn as the king of his kingdom.”
جاء المعلم لإنقاذ تلميذه، ثم أخبر الملك أنه يريد أن يُعدم أولاً، وعندما سأله الملك عن السبب أجاب: “أول شخص يُعدم في مشنقة جديدة سيولد من جديد كملك لمملكته”.
The king decided to hang himself first because he wanted to be reborn as a king and the guru saved his disciple.
قرر الملك شنق نفسه أولاً لأنه أراد أن يولد من جديد كملك، وأنقذ المعلم تلميذه.
العملاق الأناني – The Selfish Giant
In a faraway land, there lived a giant who was very selfish. He had a beautiful garden but didn’t let children play in it.
في أرض بعيدة، عاش عملاق أناني للغاية وكانت لديه حديقة جميلة، لكنه لم يسمح للأطفال باللعب فيها.
While he was away visiting a friend, children used to sneak into his garden to play.
اعتاد الأطفال التسلل إلى حديقته واللعب عندما كان يذهب لزيارة صديقه.
He once found them playing and got so angry that he decided to build a giant wall around his garden so nobody could go in anymore. He also put up a notice that outsiders entering the garden will be punished.
وجدهم ذات مرة يلعبون وغضب لدرجة شديدة، فقرر بناء جدار كبير حول حديقته حتى لا يتمكن أحد من الدخول بعد الآن، وعلق لافتةً تقول أنه سيعاقب الغرباء الذين يدخلون الحديقة.
Time passed by the isolated garden of the selfish giant, he stayed inside because he had no place to go.
مر الكثير من الوقت، وبقي العملاق الأناني داخل حديقته لأنه لم يكن لديه مكان آخر يذهب إليه.
The spring came all over the country but not in his garden. Flowers didn’t bloom and the birds didn’t sing.
جاء الربيع في جميع أنحاء البلاد إلا حديقته. لم تتفتح الزهور، ولم تغنِّ الطيور.
One day, he felt warm and thought spring had come. When he looked outside his window he noticed that there were children. They had found a hole in the wall.
في أحد الأيام، أحس العملاق بالدفء، وظن أن الربيع قد حل، ولكن عندما نظر خارج نافذته لاحظ وجود الأطفال، فقد وجدوا ثقباً في الجدار.
Everywhere the children went, the snow melted and the flowers bloomed. The giant then realized that children are the spring of life.
ذاب الثلج وتفتحت الزهور حيثما ذهب الأطفال، وعندئذٍ أيقن العملاق أن الأطفال هم ربيع الحياة.
