الجريمة والعقاب – Crime and Punishment
This novel is about Raskolnikov, a university student who lives in extreme poverty. He moved to Petersburg leaving his mother and sister in a faraway town by themselves. One day, he meets a drunk man called Marmeladov who tells him about his daughter, Sonya, who works as a prostitute to support the family.
تدور أحداث هذه الرواية حول راسكولنيكوف، وهو طالب جامعي يعيش في فقرٍ مدقعٍ. ينتقل إلى بطرسبرغ تاركاً أمه وأخته وحيدتين في بلدةٍ بعيدةٍ. ذات يوم، يتعرف إلى مُدمِنِ كحولٍ يُدعى مارميلادوف الذي يخبره عن ابنته سونيا التي تعمل كمومس لتعيل أسرتها.
Raskolnikov receives a letter from his mother telling him that his sister is going to marry a very rich man to be able to send him the money he needs. He gets extremely angry and remembers Sonya’s sacrifice.
يتلقى راسكولنيكوف رسالة من أمه مفادها أن أخته ستتزوج رجلاً غنياً جداً لتبقى قادرة على إرسال المال اللازم إليه. يغضب بشدة، ويتذكر تضحية سونيا.
Raskolnikov thinks about pawning his belongings. He visits an old woman who is a pawnbroker and pawns a watch. She is a harsh old woman living with her younger sister.
يفكر راسكولنيكوف برهن ممتلكاته. يزور سيدة مسنة ترهن الأغراض مقابل النقود، ويرهن ساعة يد لديها. إنها امرأة مسنة قاسية تعيش مع أختها الأصغر سناً.
One day, Raskolnikov decides to kill the woman and steal her money. He takes an ax and goes to her house. He is able to get in after convincing her that he has something to pawn. Raskolnikov kills the old woman and her sister. He gets confused so he only steals a small purse and some useless things. He runs away successfully.
ذات يوم، يقرر راسكولنيكوف أن يقتل المرأة ويسرق نقودها. يستل فأساً ويذهب إلى منزلها. يتمكن من الدخول مدعياً أن لديه غرضاً ليرهنه. يقتل راسكولنيكوف المرأة وأختها. يصاب بالارتباك، فيسرق محفظة صغيرة وبضعة أشياء عديمة القيمة فقط. وينجح بالهروب.
Raskolnikov gets extremely ill and delirious. Whenever someone mentions the murder, he faints. His friend, Razumikhin, shows up and takes good care of him. One day, he finds out that Marmeladov was hit by a carriage and is dying. He visits him and takes him back to his family where he meets Sonya. He is sympathetic with Sonya and gives her all the money he has got after her father’s death.
يمرض راسكولنيكوف بشدة، ويصاب بالهذيان. كلما ذكر أحدهم جريمة القتل، يفقد وعيه مباشرة. يظهر صديقه رازوميكين، ويعتني به. ذات يوم، يكتشف أن عربة دهست مارميلادوف وأنه على شفير الموت. يزوره ويعيده إلى عائلته حيث يقابل سونيا. يشعر بالتعاطف مع سونيا، ويعطيها كل المال الذي يملكه بعد وفاة والدها.
Raskolnikov finds his sister’s fiance in his room. He gets angry and kicks him out. His mother and sister arrive in Petersburg but he refuses to talk to them and asks his sister to break up with Luzihn. She refuses badly and defends her motives to marry the rich man.
يجد راسكولنيكوف خطيب أخته في غرفته. يستشيط غضباً ويطرده. تصل أمه وأخته إلى بطرسبرغ، فيرفض التحدث إليهما، ويطلب من أخته أن تفسخ خطبتها. ترفض بشدة، وتدافع عن دوافعها للزواج من الرجل الغني.
Dunya breaks up with Luzhin and kicks him out. Raskolnikov tells everyone that they would never see him again and asks Razumikhin to take care of his sister and mother. He visits Sonya who reads to him from the Bible and tells him that she is sustained by her faith in God. Her words touch Raskolnikov who falls in love with her and decides to tell her that he committed the crime.
تنفصل دنيا عن لوزين، وتطرده. يخبر راسكولنيكوف الجميع أنهم لن يروه مرة أخرى، ويطلب من رازوميكين الاعتناء بأمه وأخته. يزور سونيا التي تقرأ عليه آيات من الإنجيل، وتخبره أن إيمانها بالرب هو منقذها. تلامس كلماتها راسكولنيكوف الذي يقع في غرامها، ويقرر أنه يخبرها أنه من ارتكب الجريمة.
Raskolnikov confesses committing the crime to the police. He is sentenced to 8 years in prison in Siberia. His mother dies and Sonya follows him to Siberia.
يعترف راسكلونيكوف بجريمته أمام الشرطة. يُحكم عليه بالسجن في سيبيريا لمدة 8 سنوات. تموت والدته، وتتبعه سونيا إلى سيبيريا.
2- سدهارتا – Sidhartha
رواية للكاتب هرمان هسة، يتحدث فيها عن الرحلة الروحية لسدهارتا. تُعتبر رواية سدهارتا من أكثر الروايات التي يُنصح بقراءتها في حال كنت تبحث عن ما يساعدك على تحقيق السلام الداخلي وعلى خوض رحلة روحية سامية من الطراز الرفيع.
Siddhartha decides to leave everything and goes on a spiritual journey to achieve spiritual illumination. He becomes a homeless ascetic beggar with his friend Govinda. He fasts, meditates, and renounces all of his personal belongings.
يقرر سدهارتا ترك كل شيء، وخوض رحلة روحية للوصول إلى التنوير. يتحول إلى مشرد شحاذ زاهد برفقة صديقه غوفيندا. يصوم، ويتأمل، ويتخلى عن كل ممتلكاته.
They meet Buddha. Govinda is convinced of his teachings and decides to follow him his entire life while Siddhartha refuses to become a follower. He believes that Buddha’s teachings are extremely wise but he argues that what gives each experience its meaning is its individuality and uniqueness which can’t be presented by a teacher. He decides to discover his personal meaning of life on his own.
يقابلان بوذا. يقتنع غوفيندا بتعاليمه، ويقرر اتباعه طوال حياته، بينما يرفض سدهارتا أن يكون تابعاً. يعتقد أن تعاليم بوذا شديدة الحكمة، ولكنه يؤمن بفكرة مفادها أن ما يضفي المعنى على التجارب هو تميزها وتفردها الذين لا يمكن تحصيلهما عن طريق معلم. فيقرر اكتشاف معنى الحياة الخاص به بمفرده.
On his way, Siddhartha meets Kamala, a courtesan, who notices his handsome appearance and wit. She decides to teach him the art of love if he becomes rich. He works hard and earns a lot of money. Kamala falls deeply in love with him. They spend intimate time together and fall in love. Suddenly, Siddhartha has an epiphany and decides that this is not what he wants to do and leaves.
في طريقه، يقابل سدهارتا كمالا، وهي محظية تلاحظ وسامته وفطنته. تقرر أن تعلمه فن الحب في حال أصبح غنياً. يعمل بجد، ويكسب الكثير من المال. تقع كمالا في حبه، ويقضيان أوقاتاً حميمة برفقة بعضهما. فجأة، يحظى سدهارتا بصحوة، ويكتشف أن هذا ليس ما أراد، ويغادر.
He leaves the city and decides to commit suicide then falls asleep on the riverbank. He wakes up calmer and decides to move on. He reconnects with Govinda who passes by as a wandering Buddhist.
يغادر المدينة، ويقرر الانتحار، ثم يغفو على ضفة النهر. يستيقظ أكثر هدوءاً ويقرر متابعة طريقه. يلتقي بغوفيندا من جديد وهو يعبر في المنطقة كبوذي جوال.
Siddhartha decides that the river gives him calmness and spirituality so he decides to spend the rest of his life beside the river. He meets a ferryman who lives in a simple hut by the river. He invites him to share the hut and live together.
يقرر سدهارتا أن النهر يمنحه الهدور والروحانية، لذلك يقرر أن يمضي بقية حياته قربه. يقابل رجلاً يعمل على قارب، ويعيش في كوخ بسيط قرب النهر. يدعوه الرجل ليعيشا معاً في الكوخ.
The man shows a great deal of wisdom. Years later, Kamala becomes a Buddhist too. She is traveling to visit Buddha on his deathbed. On her way back, she runs into Siddhartha and introduces him to his son. She dies and leaves the boy with his father. Siddhartha decides to raise the boy and take good care of him. The boy didn’t like the place nor Siddhartha so he ran away.
يظهر الرجل قدراً كبيراً من الحكمة. بعد مرور عدة سنوات، تصبح كمالا بوذية أيضاً. إنها في طريقها إلى زيارة بوذا وهو على فراش الموت. في طريق عودتها، تلتقي بسدهارتا، وتعرفه على ابنه. تموت كمالا تاركة الصبي مع والده. يقرر سدهارتا أن يربي الصبي ويعتني به جيداً. لا يحب الصبي المكان ولا سدهارتا لذلك يهرب بعيداً.
The ferryman convinces Siddhartha to let the boy find his own path as he did before. The ferryman decides that his work with Siddhartha is done and it is time for him to leave.
يقنع الرجل الذي يملك القارب سدهارتا بأن يدع الصبي وشأنه ليجد طريقه كما فعل هو من قبله. يقرر رجل القارب أن مهمته مع سدهارتا انتهت وأن وقت الرحيل قد حان.
In the end, Siddhartha finds enlightenment through experiencing a whole circle of life and feels satisfied.
في النهاية، يجد سدهارتا التنوير عن طريق تجربة دورة حياة كاملة، ويشعر بالرضا.
