قصة نزلاء أركاديا – Transients in Arcadia
There is a deserted hotel in the middle of the great forest, far away from the sight of commoners and unknown to most promoting agencies.
في منتصف غابة كبيرة، ثمة فندق معزول بعيداً عن أعين عامة الناس وغير معروف من قبل وكالات الإعلان.
This hotel is ancient and antique. Every year it has lived through adds a bit more to its elegance.
هذا الفندق قديم وعتيق. يضيف كل عام يمر به له المزيد من الأناقة.
Its windows are vast and the fancy curtains dance around with the breeze of the forest.
له نوافذ واسعة تتراقص ستائرها الفاخرة مع نسيم الغابة.
The poor could not afford to stay in this luxurious hotel, and the bourgeois had not yet learned of its excellence. So it was an exclusive retreat for people who belonged to the highest classes of society.
لا يستطيع الفقراء الإقامة في هذا الفندق الفاخر، ولم يصل صدى فخامته إلى مسمع البرجوازيين بعد. لذلك كان ملاذاً حصرياً للأشخاص الذين ينتمون إلى أعلى طبقات المجتمع.
One evening, the hotel had a new visitor, an elegant lady who registered as Mrs. Louise and enchanted everyone when she walked around the hotel.
ذات ليلة، استقبل الفندق زائراً جديداً، سيدةً أنيقةً استأجرت غرفة باسم السيدة لويز، وسحرت الجميع عندما مشت في الفندق.
She rarely left her room and each day she would go down to have dinner wearing the same refined gown.
نادراً ما غادرت غرفتها، وفي كل يوم كانت تنزل لتناول العشاء مرتدية نفس الثوب الراقي.
On the third day of her visit, a young man arrived, he looked not as extravagant as Mrs. Louise yet he held himself up as a person of high class.
في اليوم الثالث من إقامتها، وصل شاب في مقتبل العمر، لم يبد الشاب فاحش الثراء كالسيدة لويز، لكنه تصرف كشخص من الطبقة الراقية.
The two guests soon caught each others’ attention and were staring at each other most of the time.
سرعان ما لفت الضيفان انتباه بعضهما، وكانا يحدقان ببعضهما معظم الأوقات.
They occasionally engaged in conversation about the hotel, Mrs. Louise explained how she was so grateful that it was still a secret from the public so only the most elite class of society can visit it.
تحدثا في بعض الأحيان عن الفندق، أبدت السيدة لويز امتنانها أن الفندق ما يزال سراً لا يعرفه عامة الشعب ولا يمكن إلا لأفضل طبقة في المجتمع زيارته.
To which he replied “It’s such a nuisance how they destroy all the good places with their vulgar actions!”.
فأجابها بقوله “إنه أمر مزعج. كيف يدمرون كل الأماكن الجيدة بأفعالهم المبتذلة!”.
Mr. Darcy, the young man, invited the lady to lunch on the last day of their visit. During their meal, Louise decided that it was time to reveal her big secret, she told him that she was actually a saleslady and she had rented her dress for one dollar a day, she only had one dollar to spend.
دعا السيد دارسي، وهو الشاب في مقتبل العمر، السيدة لويز لتناول طعام الغداء في اليوم الأخير من زيارتهما. خلال وجبتهما، قررت لويز أن الوقت قد حان للكشف عن سرها الكبير وأخبرته أنها في الواقع سيدة مبيعات، وأنها استأجرت فستانها مقابل دولار واحد في اليوم، ولم يكن لديها سوى دولار واحد لتنفقه.
She had spent all her savings to be able to afford a holiday as a prestigious woman.
لقد أنفقت كل مدخراتها لتكون قادرة على تحمل نفقات عطلة كامرأة من طبقة مرموقة.
She was leaving the next day before breakfast because her vacation was over and she had to be at work at eight o’clock.
كانت ستغادر في اليوم التالي قبل الإفطار لأن إجازتها انتهت وعليها أن تكون في العمل عند الساعة الثامنة.
Darcy then admitted that he also had to work tomorrow and he was actually a factory worker.
ثم اعترف لها دارسي أن عليه أيضاً العمل في اليوم التالي، وكان في الواقع عاملاً في مصنع.
The couple laughed at the irony of their meeting and continued their friendship as commoners.
ضحك الاثنان لسخرية القدر من لقائهما، واستمرا في صداقتهما كشخصين من عامة الشعب.
