English is a universal language.

Have you ever thought about this fact? I want to learnt English and hide from that fact today, but it’s kind of true. English is used by 3 billion people every single day!

By being fluent in English, travelling will be more fun. Also, you don’t have to wait for the latest best-selling book or Hollywood movie to be translated in your native language to enjoy them.

2. English has a simple alphabet

It’s a good thing that it has an alphabet because most written languages don’t have one. In other words, English is easy if I want to learnt English. It doesn’t include complicated sounds and letters like Arabic or Thai (they make me crazy). But on the contrary, in those cases, you need some braille books and learn at night so you can translate what you’re heard.

With English just take out of your dictionary any word you don’t understand and write it. Anyway, the fact that English is easy to learn gives you a chance not only to improve your skills but also to be included in one of the most prestigious professions: being an interpreter.

3. Good jobs are paid with money or social standing

In case you want to have a job why don’t you choose countries where people need interpreters, for example in France or Japan. It’s a job that can give you great things like money and esteem.

4. English gives you wider access to knowledge

Because it’s the language that connects people all over the world, it’s easy to integrate yourself when you speak English. That is true but if you’re a foreigner who doesn’t live in America or another great country such as Japan, England or Canada and don’t know many other languages you’ll have some problems.

5. English allows you to attend events

Major events in foreign countries are English-only. That’s why you might feel valued just because of your deeds and knowledge when people don’t even understand how they can serve the event, let alone what is needed to handle it well. That way if someone wants to have an interpreter or translator at that kind of event he has a very good chance.

6. English allows you to get better jobs later

If you have a job at the moment and your language is English, probably one day someone will come along searching for an American interpreter or it’s a lady kind of translator who can help with their business. In some cases being fluent in foreign languages (and only understanding them) might make you look less trustworthy than practicing as a translator but in other cases, it just gives great things all around in the future.

7. Growing global community of people and professionals

I have met many foreign students in Italy or France who say they are fluent but because for example, their father came from Algeria or Syria, countries which aren’t that important at the moment everybody thinks all foreigners don’t speak English.

That’s just wrong. Speaking a different language fluency from others can make you look more diversified than someone who doesn’t do something else without doing it outside his own country/country means he doesn’t have access to anything or a better job in the future.

8. English language gives you soft power

When travelling I always notice that more and more countries are investing in their language for the sake of tourism or simply because they believe it will give them an advantage over others. From common signs to popular memes, advertising campaigns use languages all around the world as if there was something special about this particular one is almost impossible since we have many other variables such as colour/shape, etc…

9. English is the official language of over 50 countries in the world

These are the most special countries where I have learned English aside from French, Spanish is the official language of over 50 countries so if you don’t speak a foreign language it doesn’t mean much. Maybe this also will get some attention point when applying for jobs or living abroad (or even just on vacation) but still not as common as any among the other vast…

10. English will open more opportunities than a simple hobby

It is difficult but when you study English it doesn’t mean there’s no hope in other fields. It all depends on how good are your skills and what languages you already know as well as if school is relevant or not to where you will be working next, don’t focus too much on one language profession if possible choose multiple professions that can use these same foreign languages.
